Nonlethal Bullets
A bullet that hits you but does not kill you? yes, it’s possible with the new ammunition that The Harrington Group, an international security company based in the United States, developed to deliver a big electric shock without the need for connecting wires.
Existing stun guns shoot a fastened dart at the human or animal target and then impel high voltage shocks down the wires. But the new invention, called Shockrounds, is wire-free and uses rubber bullets equipped with copper electrodes on the surface, which are connected to a ceramic material with PIEZOELECTRIC filling. (piezoelectric materials are those that produce voltage when a mechanical pressure is applied to them, such as those used in car starters or cigarette lighters.)
When a bullet hits the target, the impact violently compresses the piezoelectric filling and releases a shock pulse of at least 25,000 volts through the electrodes. this pulse penetrates clothing and instantly stuns the target. the effect is enhanced by filling the bullet with conducive gel that splatters ans spreads on impact.
This new technology could help law enforcers restrain fatal shootings by providing a nonlethal way to incapacitate a suspect at long ranges. the lack of wires may help increase the range of such weapon. it is believed that adding a shock to convention "less-lethal" ammunation will increase its ability to incapacitate targets without permanently harming them.
