Types of Robots
Robots can be classified according to different types-industrial robots, mobile robots, autonomous robots, and artificial intelligence or what we call AI.
Industrial robots are found in auto assembly lines putting cars together or in the computer industry putting tiny microchips together. robots are so precise that they can do the jobs more efficiently than human beings can. they would drill in exactly the same place, tighten bolts with always the same amount of pressure regardless of how long they have been working.
mobile robots are those with working locomotion system. wheels and tracks enable them to move over smooth ground. bigger wheels and tracks enable them to move on rougher terrains. mobile robots can also equipped with legs. these help biological researchers uderstand natural locomotion. they are also used in exploring dangerous or inaccessible surroundings such as the deep sea or inside a volcano.
autonomous robots can act on their own, independent of any controller. they are equipped with sensors to detect obstacles. as they bump an object, their programming tells them to move in the right direction. the sensors used are usually infrared or ultrasound. more advanced robots are equipped with stereo-vision to see the world around them. a two-camera system enables stereo-vision that gives robots depth perception. image recognition computer software gives them the ability to locate and classify various objects.
artificial robots is the most exciting field in robotics. doubts still pervade on whether robots can be intellligent. an AI is the ultimate recreation of the human thought process. it’s a robot with human itellectual abilities, including the ability to learn, reason, use language, and create original ideas.
