Preventing Split Ends

June 9, 2008

Excessive brushing, coloring, relaxing, perming, rebonding, blow-drying – they make your hair look beautiful but what a toll they have on your mane’s health. Without the proper care, your hair may soon succumb to damage and split ends. What to do when your ends begin to split? Take our advice:

  1. Use conditioner after shampooing. Using protein-rich conditioners regularly will help strengthen your hair.
  2. Trim your hair monthly.
  3. If you must blow dryers and hair irons daily, use the lowest heat setting as much as possible. Get a hair dryer that has different heat settings, not just fan settings.
  4. Get a hot oil treatment, if possible, weekly. There are home treatment you can buy from beauty stores and super markets. You can even use olive oil types (yes, the one good for cooking!) or virgin coconut oil. Warm it a bit in the microwave before applying to your hair and scalp. Wrap a towel, dampened with warm water, around your head and leave on for 15 minutes. Then shampoo.
