A Rise in Homosexual Tolerance

June 19, 2008

More and more people are saying it’s ok to have same-sex marriages. Based on a survey by the Pew Research Center conducted a few months ago, 39% of Americans expressed their support for gay unions, a 9% rise compared to a poll taken the previous year. The drastic rise in tolerance may be attributed to the opportunities given for gay rights advocates to be heard.

The findings indicate that people are becoming more open and tolerant said the research center’s director, Michael Dimock.

Aside from the rise in approval of homosexual marriages, people are also more amenable for these couples to adopt children. From a 57% opposition in 1999, numbers went down by 9%.

“it is still an issue – a lot of people who opposed it then still oppose it now. But a lot of people who opposed it then were in an intense environment and either feel less strongly or feel that people can do what they want to do,” Dimock added. (reporter-news.com)
