Toxic plastic

June 25, 2008

Disposable mineral water bottles must live up to its name of being “disposable.” These bottles should only be used once since excessive use of them can lead to poisoning.

The bottle is made up of plastic known as polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It contains a possible carcinogenic element called diethyl hydroxylamine (DEHA). When used for a long period of time, the repeated washing, rinsing and storage in hot environments cause the plastic elements to break down and release the carcinogens in your drinking water.
